Jack Petchey Achievement Award

We have 54 grants of £300 to be given out to members between the age of 11 and 25 each year.

Girls can be nominated for the award by another member of the Unit and the nomination should be supported by a Leader usually from within her unit. Nominations are considered by the Awards Committee three times a year, once per school term. If selected her unit will be awarded £300 which must be spent as soon as possible on something for the benefit of the whole unit. If she is a Guide then the money must be spent for the benefit of Guides and if she is Ranger or Young Leader the money must be spent on this age group. Therefore, for example, a Ranger who is also a Young Leader with the Rainbows cannot spend it on the Rainbow unit; she must spend it on the Ranger unit.

We suggest that Units create a wish list of items, projects and activities they would like to do and then if one of their girls' gains an award they can choose from the wish list what they would like to spend the money on. Receipts must be obtained and sent to the County Office within 2 months of the award being gained.

Unit leaders, we are sure you have girls in your Unit that fall into one of these areas so get nominating but please remember it is not a popularity award and to be considered the girl should have "gone the extra mile".

Please note the money cannot be used for general running expenses, paying your subscriptions, etc. but you can decide to buy a camera or piece of equipment such as a tent or microwave to be used at your unit meetings, take the girls to a theme park, cinema, meal out. As long as it is spent on the girls, the choice is theirs. A girl may only have one award during the time she is in Girlguiding.

To nominate someone you need to download and complete a Nomination Form.

Leaders Award

The Jack Petchey Leader Awards are designed to recognise the efforts of those who support the young people within our organisation. Linked to the Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme they enable us to publicly honour the dedication and commitment of our Leaders and volunteers – particularly recognising those ‘who go the extra mile’ to support young people.

Awards are given to adults who have demonstrated, in an outstanding way, an ability to encourage and motivate young people aged 11-25.

Leader Award Winners must be over 21 years of age and been involved with the organisation for at least 1 year. If successful they will receive a framed certificate, a boxed medallion and the opportunity to apply for a grant of up to £1,000 to be spent on a unit activity or item.
Please fill in a Leader Nomination Form which should also be sent to the County Office.
